One of my callings is that of ward music coordinator. Besides planning the Sacrament music, I also lead the music in Sacrament meeting. I usually like to sit with my family in between songs to be with the kids. However, by the time that Nate gets there with the 3 kids on his own, they are usually sitting at the very back of the cultural hall. So, it's a long walk back up to the stand.
As the meeting on Sunday was coming to a close, I walked out the door to the hallway so that I could walk around to the front of the chapel. I left in plenty of time before the last song. Somebody stopped me in the hallway right as I walked out the door and started talking to me. Unfortunately, the speakers were turned off in the foyer so I couldn't hear when the speaker was finished, but I thought that I had plenty of time. All of a sudden, I heard the organ start playing the closing song. I couldn't believe it! Remember that I was in the hallway at the very back of the cultural hall. I ran all the way down the hall and onto the stand, grabbed my hymn book and started leading just as the congregation started singing. Needless to say, most people were laughing too hard to sing. I'm glad that I can be some comic relief during Sacrament meeting! I ran so fast that I couldn't breathe very well to sing and lead -- how can you sing a high "E" when you can't breathe? If they don't release me after that, I don't know what will make them!
My other two callings are MiaMaid Advisor and I'm also over all the music for the Young Women. I just found out today that they are calling another advisor to help while I am having my baby. Let me see if I can explain. We only have about 7 Mia Maids. There is already a counselor and two advisors for the MiaMaid class. Calling this other person would mean 4 leaders for 7 girls! I'm a little in shock. To me, that is totally unneccessary. I had a long talk with the presidency member today who basically told me that after I have the baby that nobody is allowed to talk to me for 2-3 months. Everything will be taken care of. I've never heard anything like it. Not only that, but I've been told that several people have told the Bishop to release me from ward music coordinator because I have too many callings. I don't know what to say. Isn't it normal to have several callings? I can't believe that I am being taken care of so well.
I was called as Young Women's president when I was barely pregnant with Jake. I had that calling through my pregnancy and after he was born until we moved here when Jake was 1 1/2. Those were some of the hardest years of my life, but I just believe that you serve to the best of your ability.
It feels good, though, to serve with women who understand that we are there not only to serve the girls, but to help and serve each other. The group of women that I work with are absolutely amazing.

I wish I could have seen you running to make it up to the stand. Were you grabbing your belly as you ran? That had to have been painful. Women who are 7 months pregnant don't usually sprint at church! You're so funny.
As for the callings, maybe everybody is finally starting to realize that you don't have to do everything. How fantastic for you to be relieved of your duties so that you can recoup from having your baby. You're going to have 4 kids! Do you realize that? You don't need to have 3 callings, 4 jobs, and all the other crazy things you do.
It is nice that you will have a break, but I have been seriously grateful this week for callings and the chance to serve and grow! I know YOU will want back to work sooner than they think!
I don't even think I could run if I wanted to when I was pregnant! Anyways, I have always been in a ward with a couple of callings, but have never been in a "big" ward. They were mostly small and never had enough people to fill all callings.
So, I do find it interesting that you have so many in what seems to be a good sized ward. I am sure you do an amazing job and are I can only imagine how busy with that many callings and 3 little boys! And another on the way. My hats off to you Miss Jana!
I agree with Jenny, I doubt I could run at all in the third trimester! We could use a little comic relief like that in our ward...
I'm glad the YW is being so considerate with you having a baby. I got released when I was so sick during my pregnancy and had no problem with that!
Jana, how is it that you always seem to have such hilarious things happen to you? The image is just too much!
It's great that your ward is taking such good care of you. You have such a great ward. I am always impressed with how much they serve.
Until recently I wouldn't have thought it was normal for anybody to have more than one calling. You and Jill are convincing me otherwise. I've never had more than one. In fact my wards in years past have been so huge that it's not unusual to have no calling at all. They're kind of like BYU wards where they have to make up callings to give everyone a chance to serve.
